5 Facts About the Ocean

4. Deepstaria enigmatica

A video clip from 2012 of an oil rig off the Gulf of Mexico spotted a highly unusual and surreal-looking animal. It was seen over 3,200 feet or 1,000 meters underwater floating like a sheet or a blanket in the water.

The animal was later revealed to be a form of a jellyfish – named Deepstaria enigmatica to be exact. However, we don’t know much about the animal other than the fact that it lives at depths between 3,200 and 6,500 feet or 1,000 and 2,000 meters.
