3. Fear of carrying cash
It’s human nature to be slightly apprehensive about walking down the street with a wad of cash stuck in your trouser pocket. This isn’t actually anything new and in fact was no different in the medieval times. To overcome this, knights would carry with them a special ring which upon it had a symbol, unique to their castle – just like credit cards have chips. When the knights were staying somewhere or buying something, the innkeepers recognised the mark and would later take the bill with the imprint to the castle to be paid at a later date. This meant the knight wasn’t carrying any physical money on them.
